Never stayed there hence no idea how retro good the hotel is but they are going to modernism it. That's typical nature of Japan let alone human. New and younger is usually the better. Tyler Brule of Wallpaper and Monocle is trying to stop it. That's so him. Cortiina hotel he likes in Munich had a very nice German quality to it which you do not get from staying at world wide chains. Very thick doors, patina brass door handle, thick carpet wrapping stairs and fabulous cafe with superb waiters. Yet, Cortiina is a very small joint and Okura is much larger. I do hope Tyler and Okura choose wisely. Would pay to see his presentation to Okura execs.
